Mother-of-pearl celebrated by Art'emi
Ah, the good oyster… after eating it, take the time to admire the inside of its home! Blue and pearly pink line the shell… yet it is not pigments or dyes that give these colours and shades. Indeed, mother-of-pearl is a natural organic phenomenon (and not a mineral as one might think). Very hard, it is laid down in thin overlapping layers that cover the inside of the shell. It is the oyster itself that secretes these layers made of aragonite.
Mother-of-pearl is a material that is recognised and loved for its shimmering reflections. Very elegant and refined, it is a fine stone that one likes to wear on a jewel. Its soft appearance will give you confidence and reveal your femininity. The shades of this precious stone will enhance rings, bracelets, earrings, or even necklaces.
Do not hesitate to come and discover our sublime mother-of-pearl jewellery.

Mother-of-pearl, a fine stone with the colours of the rainbow
The word “mother-of-pearl” comes from the Arabic “naqqarah”. In English, it is called so after Queen Elizabeth I gave it the name “Mother-of-Pearl”.
Ultimately, mother-of-pearl is the inner coating, with iridescent (rainbow) reflections, of certain mollusc shells such as the oyster and the abalone. Biosynthesised by the mantle and made up of aragonite crystals bound by a protein called conchiolin. It is the thin layers of aragonite that cause the iridescence effect, those pretty reflections of mother-of-pearl that change depending on the angle of view.

Moreover, the milky colour and the iridescent reflections, exceptional in mother-of-pearl, quickly made it very popular in the making of jewellery, but also buttons, musical instruments (many stringed instrument makers use it to personalise instruments. Although costly, the result is often very beautiful and turns the instrument into a true work of art), and other decorative or fashion items.
Finally, for the Greeks, these pearls are a symbol of love, and they offered their beloved a worked mother-of-pearl jewel. Catholics also love it, as it symbolises purity and gentleness. Moreover, they use it to make effigies of the Virgin or rosaries. For the Polynesians, mother-of-pearl is considered the marine reflection of the deity, “the smile of the gods” …

The benefits and care of these gems
In stone healing, mother-of-pearl, because of its milky colour, is said to have motherly and protective virtues. It would gently protect against external aggressions and bring calm and serenity. Thus, it would protect from bad influences and be very reassuring.
Mother-of-pearl is organic, and consequently, very sensitive to your environment. It is cleaned using lukewarm water, soap, and a soft brush to remove dirt marks. What could be simpler? No need to go far to find a magic product, everything is in your bathroom. Please, get your brushes ready.
A surprising marriage between the whiteness of the stone and the shine of the metal
The vast majority of mother-of-pearl jewellery is made of silver or white gold, but some, in yellow gold, offer a surprising marriage between the pure whiteness of mother-of-pearl and the warm shine of the metal. The jewellery offers several precious metals to create these pieces. They are made from solid silver, vermeil, gold, and rose gold. Thanks to these quality materials, we can guarantee the hardness and longevity of our jewellery.
