The origin of the turquoise stone remains unclear. It was originally called “Firuze” or “Ferozah” which means “Victorious”. It was brought from Iran by the Turks and first appeared during the trades of Venetian merchants. Moreover, it was during the Crusades that it took its name “Turkish Stone,” hence “turquoise.”

More technically, it is an opaque mineral species made of hydrated copper and aluminium phosphate, giving it its blue colour. The green colour it sometimes shows is the result of iron impurities replacing aluminium. The more copper the stone contains, the bluer it will be, and vice versa.
